Illinois

This flag is kind of based off of the Chicago flag, which is great!

The blue stripe by the hoist represents the Mississippi River. The quarter-circle represents Lake Michigan. The six stars represent the six states which border Illinois; Wisconsin. Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, and Iowa. There are a total of 102 points on the six stars, which represent the 102 counties of Illinois. The "L" shape of the stars represents Abraham Lincoln, and the state's nickname, "The Land of Lincoln". Also, the blue stripe and the "L" resembles "IL", the state's abbreviaton.

The current Illinos flag is stupid. And the guy who designed it obviously didn't know what he was doing. (duh?) The government of Illinois added the word "ILLINOIS" to the flag so that people would recognize it. If the flag wasn't so complicated, they wouldn't need the words; people would recognize that.

Your design seems to focus on the Chicago area to the exclusion of the majority of the state.

You say that the three stars represent the three large urban areas. If you mean the three largest cities in the state you are not correct. While Chicago is, by far, the largest city in Illinois, Rockford is third and Springfield is sixth. The city of Aurora is second and Naperville and Joliet are larger than Springfield.

Hey, I know that some cities in Illinois are larger than some toher cities, but I'm not talking about cities, I'm talking about largely populated areas, not cities.

So, you're representing the "largely populated" areas to the exclusion of the rest of the state. That being the case, this flag fails to represent Illinois because it only has meaning for three "areas".

Even if it were adopted, which would be unlikely because of opposition from people outside those "areas," it would cease to be meaningful should any of those areas change, as the recent case with Aurora and Rockford, or if the population of two areas were tied.

That is a good point. I will be working on some new designs. If you have any designs (or anyone for that matter), please send them to me. Thank you. ;-)

I've updated the design to represent all of Illinois. How is it?

If this flag represents all of Illinois, why are the six central elements everything that's not Illinois?

It's not everything that's not Illinois. It's just the six states that border Illinois. Did I not include something for every county in Illinois?
